  • Effective Altruism Psychology Lab – EA Psychology Research lab centers its research on human psychology and behavior surrounding effective altruism and longtermism, including topics such as morality, rationality, and cognitive biases, alongside adjacent areas like effective giving, EA community building, and animal welfare. They also have a directory of researchers who study effective altruism and related ideas.
  • Happier Lives Institute – The Happier Lives Institute connects donors, researchers, and policymakers with the most cost-effective opportunities to increase global wellbeing.
  • Effective Thesis – Effective Thesis offers advice, coaching, and opportunities for funding, supervision, and community connections for PhDs and undergraduates wanting to do high-impact research. Enable the ‘Psychology and Cognitive Sciences’ tag to filter relevant topics. You can also reach out to them for more personal and detailed advice.

Funding and Careers

  • Charity Entrepreneurship – CE helps launch high-impact nonprofits by connecting entrepreneurs with effective ideas, training, and funding. Mental health is a regular focus area, as explained in this EA Forum post.
  • Open Philanthropy – Open Philanthropy is a philanthropic funder focused on longtermism and global health and well-being.
  • EA Internships – A website and job board helping aspiring effective altruists skill-build and find impactful positions.

Mental Health Interventions

  • Rethink Wellbeing – Rethink Wellbeing’s mission mission is to spread mental resilience, and wellbeing at scale through engaging, proven, and low-cost programs, tailored to the needs of communities. Rethink Wellbeing designed the EA Mental Health Program and EA Productivity to support the mental health, motivation, and productivity of EAs, as well as to help them build a healthy approach toward EA.
  • EA Mental Health Navigator – The Mental Health Navigator aims to boost well-being of people in the EA community by connecting them with mental health resources considered to be effective and to have the greatest likelihood of being helpful. They have a list of recommended Mental Healthcare Providers and Coaches, and you can also book a consultation get more personalized advice.
  • Spark Wave – A startup foundry that applies social science, strategic thinking, and iterative experimentation to create socially beneficial software companies from scratch. Thier projects include:
    • MindEase – science-backed exercises that relieve stress & anxiety in under 10 minutes.
    • Uplift – scalable, evidence-based interventions for depression.
    • Clearer Thinking – better decision making with science-based tools
    • Ten Conditions for Change – a framework for creating positive behaviors
  • Inquiry Health – Inquiry Health LLC offers a large variety of self-help and diagnostic mental health apps. You can browse them on Android or iOS.
  • VIVID – Vivid is an app designed to help individuals find the most effective ways to remove internal obstacles by addressing the mindsets that underly the internal obstacles one faces.   • StrongMinds – Scalable, evidence-backed group talk therapy to low-income women and adolescents with depression in Uganda and Zambia. Not directly EA-aligned, but regularly highlighted by EA orgs for their impactful work.

  • Psychology for Effective Altruism – A global community of EAs inspired by how Psychology and Behavioral Sciences contribute to Effective Altruism Cause Areas, such as Global Mental Health Interventions, Community and Individual Wellbeing, and Meta-EA – interventions specifically for our fellow EAs worldwide.
  • Effective Altruism, Mental Health, and Happiness – A group to discuss the best ways individuals and organizations can use their resources to increase the happiness and life satisfaction of others.
  • EA Peer Support – This is a help and support group for members of the EA community dealing with personal problems. The group is intended for people who need support and/or offer support.
  • Effective Altruism Medicine – A network of healthcare members, who use evidence and reason to decide how we can maximize our impact in helping others. The Effective Altruism Medicine group was created for all healthcare and medical professionals.

  • EA Mental Health – The EA Mental Health Slack channel, containing sub-groups where you can get access and contribute to in-depth expert discussions, materials, and insights that shared within the community.
